Echo Park Lake
Location: 751 Echo Park Avenue, Los Angeles, CA
Echo Park Lake was built in the 1860s as a drinking water reservoir, but today it functions as a detention basin for urban stormwater. The park also attracts local wildlife and provides recreational benefits to the community. With funding from Prop O, Echo Park Lake underwent a rehabilitation project which included benefits such as a wetlands feature that naturally improves water quality and beautifies the lake and aquatic plants that provide habitat and control the growth of unwanted algae. New permeable walking paths improve the experience for park visitors, increase groundwater recharge and reduce the risk of flooding.
