We Did It!
Safe, Clean Water Program Moves to the November Ballot
Thanks to the amazing work and support from our diverse coalition of community leaders, advocates and residents throughout Los Angeles County, the OurWaterLA coalition took a big step forward in securing safe, clean, local water for our region.
On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to place a measure on the November 6, 2018 ballot that could raise over $300 million a year to fund projects that capture stormwater, increase local water supply, improve water quality, create more green spaces, generate jobs and training programs, and help improve the health of historically underserved communities. We are so thankful to our member organizations, allies, and volunteers for helping us share the importance of securing a resilient water future for Los Angeles. With their tireless effort, the Board of Supervisors looked onto a sea of blue in the hearing room – representing a diverse LA County ready to invest in our water future. Over 250 people attended the hearing, more than 2,000 pledge cards and petition signatures were collected to speak for Angelenos who couldn’t be present.
Lastly, thank you to Supervisor Sheila Kuehl and Supervisor Hilda Solis for their leadership in making the region’s water future a priority. The Safe, Clean Water Program could help Los Angeles prepare for climate change and update its outdated infrastructure and approach to water.
